Minnesota State Capital Mall Historic District Cultural Landscape Study

The Minnesota State Capitol Mall Design Framework (CMDF) is a long term vision for the future of the Capitol Mall. The framework ensures that each project completed on the Capitol Mall both respects the Capitol Mall Historic District and is part of a greater vision to make the space welcoming for all Minnesotans.
Damon Farber, working with a multi-disciplinary team led by Sasaki, provided landscape architecture expertise on the CMDF and led the Cultural Landscape Report. Community engagement, public design charrettes, government agency and elected official stakeholder workshops all informed the concepts for public improvements to the Mall. The Cultural Landscape Report provides recommendations and guidelines for National Register listed property. The plan envisions the Capitol Area through 2040 and defines how the district will relate to its surrounding context and support its diverse community.
