Berger Fountain

Minneapolis, MN

In 2021, Friends of Loring Park and Citizens for a Loring Park Community hired Damon Farber to conduct an assessment of the beloved 1975 Berger Fountain, otherwise known as the Dandelion Fountain. The structure had fallen into inoperable condition and Damon Farber worked with a team of consultants to determine a range of options and feasibility, from restoring or re-imagining the site. Determining restoration as the most value-added option, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board hired the Damon Farber team to complete schematic design through construction administration for restoration of the fountain and enhancement of the surrounding site. The design team worked through a series of stakeholder events to shape a design vision that tied the physical and socially historic aspects of the fountain and site with current needs and functionality. The project solidifies the historic fountain as a bookend for the Loring Greenway, and welcomes visitors to Loring Park with improved pathways/circulation, planting beds, and passive seating.
