Nancy Valenzuela
Associate
Nancy is an associate landscape designer with over five and a half years of experience transforming the urban environment. Driven by the power of landscape architecture to effect meaningful change, she specializes in converting underutilized spaces into inviting, purposeful environments that strengthen social infrastructure and foster community connections. Her approach to design is rooted in optimism and equity. Nancy is motivated by the capacity of landscape architecture to bring thoughtful design to more people, particularly those in communities that have historically been underserved.
Nancy earned a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and a Certificate in Diversity Studies from Texas A&M University. Throughout her academic career, she won competitive scholarships and a research grant from the National Science Foundation. Her NSF research took her to the Netherlands for two weeks to study the country's storm and flood water mitigation strategies. This experience, coupled with her research into Latin American protest movements, deepened Nancy's belief in the importance of multiuse public space for social and environmental well-being.
"As a child, I was surrounded by construction documents and projects thanks to my father and his brothers. I knew from a young age that architecture would allow me to couple my love for art with the craft of construction to help improve lives. The 'landscape' portion was the missing key that fell into place and hooked me."
Outside of the office, Nancy is an avid reader, biker, and matcha enthusiast. On her perfect day, she combines all three.
