As a student of Utah State University’s Bachelor + Master of Landscape Architecture program, Ryder is interested in the subtle ways design can shape identity and belonging. Drawn initially to graphic design, Ryder found landscape architecture through a desire to create something more tangible and lasting. He is fascinated by the profession’s ability to shape spaces that are shared by everyone, bringing people together by encouraging community in ways that often go unnoticed. His interests lie in the connections that unite people and place, and he enjoys uncovering the cultural, historical, and ecological context that gives a landscape its identity. Believing that understanding a site’s story is essential to creating meaningful design, Ryder explores how thoughtful graphics, clear communication, and connected systems can strengthen relationships with place and with one another.

“The best landscapes are often the ones people don’t consciously notice, yet they make us feel comfortable and like ourselves. I’m passionate about creating places that strengthen that feeling and help people feel a sense of community.”

Outside of work, Ryder enjoys photography, hockey, repairing/modifying clothing, and digging through record shops in search of additions to his vinyl collection. He is always exploring new creative outlets and ways to make things by hand.
