Isabella Blauert is an intern at Damon Farber. She is attending the University of Wisconsin – Madison and pursuing a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree with certificates in Environmental Studies and Integrative Design of Built and Natural Environments.
An area of general interest for her is ecological restoration. She’s also increasingly interested in how landscape architecture ties into environmental justice.
Outside of work, you can probably find her hiking, reading, or watching her current obsession – Lord of the Rings. She especially loves when a trail has a good wetland boardwalk.
“What initially drew me to landscape architecture was the integration of design and the outdoor environment. I’ve always been passionate about the preservation of natural spaces. However, the further I get into the realm of landscape architecture, the more interested I am in how design ties to communities who will use these designed spaces. From looking at the smallest details of a step’s dimensions designed to best accommodate the people it was made for to larger scale thinking of how the site as a whole affects someone; design can make such a difference in people’s health, safety, and wellbeing. And that’s been fascinating. Really, there is so much to learn and find interesting in landscape architecture. I’m excited to enter a field where I will always be learning.”
