Ridgedale Park

The New Park at Ridgedale transforms a portion of the Ridgedale Mall parking lot into a community gathering space with lush gardens, creative play areas, an open lawn and a flexible plaza. The park is part of a larger long-term vision to transform the Ridgedale area into a mixed-use community with higher-density housing and bike and pedestrian-friendly design. Ideation for the park started with an intensive community engagement process which established the direction and program for the new park. Outreach included meetings, surveys, and a tactical urbanism effort that chalked out the park area during a live music event in the Ridgedale parking lot. Visitors were asked to share thoughts on the desired vibe/feeling for the park as well as the types of activities and amenities needed. The park includes a stage, hammocks, a winter skating rink and warming house and public art that doubles as children’s play equipment. The plaza is designed to host markets and large events, while more intimate spaces provide smaller gathering opportunities. The outcome is a signature park that offers a unique community gathering space that helps create an identity for the Ridgedale area, is welcoming and inclusive, and integrates the community’s input.
