The Close US Army Reserve Center is a joint project between the US Army, Minnesota National Guard and the City of Faribault. Damon Farber Associates led the site design which integrated the facility with the adjacent neighborhood, the nearby airport and within its natural wetland surroundings. One of the primary challenges was to provide community access, comply with force protection guidelines and to respond to Federal Aviation Administration standards for developing adjacent to the flight path. The result balances community access with military protection and creatively uses storm water management and native prairie to help buffer the facility from active flight paths.
