Northfield Middle School

Rozeboom Miller Architects chose Damon Farber Associates as their landscape architectural design consultant to design and develop a state of the art middle school in Northfield Minnesota. Issues resolved by the design team included accommodating circulation for 25 school buses, entry plaza configuration, spaces for outdoor learning, and locating over 8 full size athletic fields on site.

Safety was a constant underlying concern for the design team that guided the placement of parking lots, trails, and roadways.

Native plant materials and large native plant beds incorporated into the site enhanced the natural character and provide expanded opportunities for students to learn about the natural environment.

An outdoor amphitheater was sited adjacent to an existing wetland. The amphitheater functions as an outdoor classroom for small gatherings, but can also accommodate groups of over 300 students.
