Proposed County road improvements through the Central Business District
provided an opportunity to revitalize the downtown core of this first
ring suburban community. The project study area comprised of a six
square block area and included a mix of residential, retail and civic
developments.
The design solution reflected the suburban context by creating a distinct
downtown character within a park-like setting.
Scale, character and visual interest were defined through the use
of meandering paths, arbors, extensive plantings and distinct site
furnishings. Seasonal banners, flowers and signage emphasize year-round
color. The mix of land uses were integrated through a common vocabulary
of materials, textures, form and color. Improvements were completed
as a reinvestment and economic development to revitalize the downtown
core.
