Ecco Tot Lot - Lake Calhoun

The Minneapolis Park Board hired Damon Farber Associates to design a community playground on the East side of Lake Calhoun. A series of meetings with the East Calhoun neighborhood were held to gain community input and identify solutions to community concerns over the development of the project. Four locations along the lake shore were assessed for proper siting of the playground.

A serpentine seatwall forms an edge for the playground and provides clear locations for parents and children to cross the two heavily used bike and walking paths safely. An overlook forms the opposite edge to the playground providing a scenic location for viewing the activity on the lake. The playground has become a vital amenity for the neighborhood and a destination point along the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes.

Damon Farber Associates received a CUE (Committee on Urban Enviornment) Award for their work on the ECCO Tot Lot from the City of Minneapolis.
