following outline of tasks is a typical approach to residential
design:
Task
1 - Preliminary Design
• Obtain site / topographical survey and prepare
base plan
• Photo-document site and assess existing conditions
• Review adjacent properties/influences
• Prepare conceptual design scheme
•
Develop comprehensive site landscape plan
• Prepare appropriate illustrations
• Provide outline specifications/notes
• Develop preliminary landscape details
• Prepare budget projection, implementation priorities
and
phasing
Task
2 - Final Design
• Refine site plan to reflect on-going discussions
• Prepare final construction plan(s) to incorporate:
- dimensioned site plan
- grading and drainage
- paving/stone work
- planting
- lighting, fencing, walls and site amenities
• Prepare appropriate details
• Develop specifications
• Provide final cost estimate with alternates identified
Task
4 – Bidding and Site Observation
• Solicit landscape contractors to review drawings
• Respond to questions regarding drawings
• Landscape contractor selection / negotiation
• Site observation throughout construction to insure
compliance with design intent
• Contractor payment review and approval
