Avera Cancer Institute

The Avera Cancer Institute in Sioux Falls South Dakota is currently in the design phase and is a planned expansion to the already existing McKennan Hospital and ever-growing health campus. The community was lacking a facility to locally treat cancer patients and determined the need was great enough to support this new facility.

Damon Farber Associates worked closely with BWBR Architects to site the building and continues to work with the site plan to accommodate the needed parking, stormwater ponding, and pedestrian circulation on the site. Additionally, we have been developing concepts for the two-thousand plus square foot interior healing garden space. Themed concepts that provide a comforting and refl ective environment are meant to provide a space for contemplation and mental healing while local residents are patients at the facility. Moving forward we will be developing green roof solutions for portions of the building that will allow patients on upper fl oors to quickly step outside the facility on beautiful summer days.
