The
Eastcliff residence located along the eastern riverbluff overlooking
the Mississippi River gorge and downtown Minneapolis is used by the
University of Minnesota President as a residence and space for hosting
small and large events.
Damon Farber Associates first prepared a Master Plan and vision for
future improvements to the Eastcliff grounds. The plan created a variety
of spaces that range from a large lawn that allows for events to be
tented to nicely scaled gardens and small courtyards that provide
for reflection.
Next
Damon Farber Assoicates was asked to bring the 'Literary Walk' and
the 'Dining Terrace', both parts of the overall Master Plan, to reality.
The images above reflect these projects.
The
existing landscape is characterized by mature trees and manicured
gardens. The intent of the plant material vocabulary was to enhance
what already existed and to place an emphasis on the use of plants
indigenous to Minnesota.
Unifying the site through a careful arrangement of spaces was a major
goal of the Master Plan. The plan also incorporated hardscape materials
native to Minnesota and paid close attention to details that reflect
the historic character of this nationally registered estate.
