Target Financial Services Terrace
Minneapolis, MN

Target Corporation purchased an existing building situated west of the downtown Minneapolis to house their Financial Services Division. Target's goals included an update of the terrace to better serve the employees and compliment the adjoining and newly renovated café. A security enclosure for the patio and garden area needed to accommodate larger company gatherings while providing emergency access.

Several concepts were developed which illustrated a variety of enhancements and opportunities for renovation. The selected scheme emphasized the cost saving approach of utilizing the existing concrete paving to provide separate dining areas for smokers and non-smokers. Surrounded by new perennial gardens, a palette of sustainable and visually appealing plant materials creates continual seasonal interest. A selection of planters and site furnishings creates interest and places for comfortable seating. Employees in the adjoining café can enjoy year round views to the garden terrace.

A wire curvilinear fence provides building security and emergency egress while define an outdoor room to accommodates company events. A border of evergreens and perennials visually connects the new garden to the mature park setting beyond.

Working closely with the client, contractors and suppliers; DFA was able to meet a restricted budget and timeframe from concept development to construction installation, in a matter of a few months.
