U of M Sports Recreation Facility

The University of Minnesota has established a Gateway and Edges strategy for creating an overall identity and visual image for the campus. As part of that effort Damon Farber Associates was commissioned to design the Pleasant Street Gateway which has become the standard for the East Bank of the University.

The recall of the historic Pillsbury Gate at the Oak Knoll which borders Pleasant Street is evident through the introduction of wrought iron fencing and cast columns which flank the entrance to the Sports & Recreational Facility on University Avenue. ADA pedestrian access, paving, lighting, site furnishings and bicycle parking are carefully integrated into the plaza and outdoor courtyards which are landscaped with indigenous Minnesota plant materials.
