University of Nebraska Lincoln - Abel Sandoz Dining Facility Courtyard

Damon Farber Associates recently completed a project at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. The new Abel Sandoz Dining Facility and exterior courtyard is the new sought after space on campus. Designed to accommodate events for as many as 550 people, the courtyard has an underlying linear concept to accentuate the long space surrounded on all four sides by campus dining and residence hall buildings.

The space includes an Ipe wood deck, a sunken accessible lawn area, a water trough complete with stormwater collection wiers, and long linear precast concrete seat walls that are illuminated at night with a soft ‘Cornhusker Red' glow. Landscape plantings, specifically chosen for low maintenance, are incorporated to soften the space and provide privacy. Five Maple trees vertically divide the space lending future privacy from residence windows above, and will also reflect the school's colors come Fall.
